Hi, having just bought a 1926 Chummy (my first 7), I would be grateful for recommendations of Austin 7 literature. Ideally I would like to cover two areas: 1)Authenticity -to check to what extent the car is original in detail, and what parts I should be looking for at autojumbles 2)A workshop manual/restoration guide preferably dealing with both standard cars and sensible modern modifiactions -I have a couple of 750MC books, but both seem rather dated compared with what is done today. Agree with Charles buy the Woodrow A7 Manual, but buy it either from one of our 'Cherished Suppliers' or direct from the publishers, don't be tempted by the often overpriced copies offered on eBay - it is in print and available brand new for around 40 odd pounds. ![]() Email: [email protected] Products: Austin Seven Workshop Manual If you live in Dorset I can highly recommend joining the Dorset Austin Seven Club, they are friendly, knowledgeable and very active. There has been a suggestion that the Source Book may be reprinted later this year / early next so it may be worth waiting if you intend buying a copy. To say the A7 Source Book 'is now prohibitively expensive' - well I bought my copy when it was first published in 1989. The dust jacket inner flap confirms that I paid the full publishers price of £75 - in today's money that's £139.10p according to the BoE - so a very expensive book even when new! The ones frequently offered on eBay are more often than not the 2004 second edition reprint which was priced at £35 when new. However it's been said on many occasions that the illustrations in the 04 reprint are poor and lack the clarity of the first edition. The 'book' was originally the parts catalogue of a now long defunct supplier of A7 spares - John Platts of 'The Austin Seven Centre Ltd' Bristol. The exploded parts diagrams are superb and were done by a technical illustrator in 1983, each part is numbered with a corresponding description and quantity required per car - very useful publication to have when sourcing parts.
